This picture is not anything new for people who live in Central Illinois, or particularly in Springfield, but for those of you viewing from outside the Land of Lincoln...this is a horseshoe. This is a Springfield invention and there is almost a fine art ...

I do not have much of a green thumb. I get emotionally attached to everything I plant. I love my plants and I take the best care that I know how. But it usually ends up with a dead plant and my feeling like I've murdered a living thing. That said, eve...

I found this spider on my back porch. I think s/he is feasting on a moth. I can't say I'm a fan of spiders (although I LOVE Spiderman), I love that they kill other little creepy-crawly things.

Along the same line as yesterday's post, I also ran across these two at the park yesterday. I would not have noticed them except that I heard, from about 50 yards away, this little girl yelling, "I caught one!!! I caught one!!!" She was obviously very,...

I don't have a story to go with this picture. I just thought this scene had a lot of "aw...how cute" factor.

We had some summer storms today in Springfield, which left my house without power for about an hour in the late afternoon. Later, I was out running some errands, thinking about how much I didn't want to be out in the rain and would rather be home, when I...

This is the church the Lincoln family attended while they lived in Springfield. It is not the actual building or the location where A. Lincoln and fam attended church (the congregation moved) but it is the same church and inside is the pew where the Linco...

My husband and I were walking in Washington Park tonight with our two lovely dogs. Everything was going along pretty well and then out of nowhere, two deer ran across the road about 20 feet in front of us. Our dogs had no idea what to make of that since...

I'm posting rather late today but that's because I've been enjoying 4th of July festivities. I hope all of you had a great Independence Day. I, with my husband and some friends, went to Theater in the Park at New Salem State Park near Petersburg (my hom...

I had to go to Washington, DC for a couple of days and took this picture during my flight out on Monday. Unfortunately, this was one of the last SPI to IAD flights, which officially end this week. During the short time that this route was available, I u...

These orange flowers they are in bloom all over Springfield right now. Even though they are common and seem to be in nearly every yard in my neighborhood, I don't think their commonness makes them any less special. I love the color they add--especially ...

This is one of the BART Shuttle vans. While many people may think of BART as Bay Area Rapid Transit, one of the earliest mass-transit systems in the country, this BART refers to...well, I don't know. I've often wondered why it's called BART but I've nev...

I took this picture a while ago and have been hesitant to use it for a couple of reasons. First, it seems kind of cliche, or maybe just too easy and expected. Second, even though I've done other Lincoln-related posts on this blog, I feel a heavy weight ...

Summer means a big increase in the number of things crawling around. I know that things that crawl, like bugs, are a necessary part of the web of life, but generally I'm not a huge fan of them. Except for lightning bugs. I love lightning bugs, or firef...

When I started this blog, one of the things I decided that I needed to address was Springfield, Illinois' Simpsons connections. While it's true that we did not win the contest last year to host the premiere of The Simpson's Movie, I think our 2nd place f...

I have a problem that I can look right at something and not see it. My mom says it's a genetic defect on my dad's side (and that does seem logical). I only noticed this giant deer made of old car bumpers last week--yet it's sitting in a parking lot wher...

I saw this one day and it struck me as odd. There must be a reason that this parking is for female physicians only.
